for a new service

I joined TWIN WOODS HUMAN RESOURCE CORP as a UX/UI Designer. We created a new service which is a platform that connects job seekers with small business companies in Vancouver.

Members: CEO, 1 marketer, 2 UX Designers

Duration: 3 months

Tool: Figma, FigJam

Deliverables:
User research, Affinity map, Empathy map, User Persona, Task flows, Wireframe, Prototype

Problem Statement

Job seekers (International students living in Canada)

-Getting a job is very difficult for international students.
-Even though users want to start by volunteering or interning,

they would like to have a chance to connect with people from companies.

Companies (Canadian small business owners)
-They are struggling because they are not sure how to identify quality human resources.
-It is time-consuming to screen a large number of resumes.
-Want to reduce the time and effort of recruiting

→The goal is to launch a matching service that connects these two parties in a WIWIN way.

Process

1. Empathize

I conducted interviews to identify the tendency behaviors of international students and employers and the thoughts and problems behind them.

Interviewees: 4 international students, 3 employers

Insights from international students in Canada

-Users decided to study abroad through Canada's study abroad system COOP (a course that combines lectures at a college and an internship) with the aim of changing or advancing my career, but in reality, it is quite difficult to get a professional or office job.

-Canada is a meritocratic society, so a lack of experience is fatal when it comes to changing careers.

-The main way to get a job is to get a job through connections, so it can be a pain to start by making connections.

-Users would like to have connections with companies, even if I start as a volunteer.

Insights from employers in Canada

-Emploters need talent in spots. International students who return to their home countries are not suitable for long-term employment.

-Small and medium-sized businesses do not have the resources to hire and hire human resources.

-Even if you have a face-to-face meeting or interview, it is difficult to tell whether the person is a good person or not.

2.Define

While exchanging ideas with internal stakeholders, we created personas and emphasis maps based on users' pain points and behavioral trends. This is an important task in order to clarify who the users of our services are and align our understanding within the company.

 Student:

-It’s so hard to get a job in Canada, especially an office job
-It is also difficult to connect with the people in Canadian companies.
-Starting a volunteer job is a good way to seek a career in Canada, but face the difficulties of finding a connection.

 Employers:

-It takes time and efforts to hire employees.
-They have to go through a lot of resume...
-They don’t have time to spend time for hiring.
-They are not sure what kind of personnels are ideal for the business.

3.Ideate

We identified a user problem and created a service to solve it. Again, team members exchanged opinions and tested the hypothesis twice in order to make it acceptable to the market. The service we tentatively created was in demand by students but needed improvement before employers could pay for it. In order to realize a service that solves the problems of employers, we created a simple prototype and conducted a survey on the feasibility of using it and the value of the service to employers.

4.Prototype

Since this is a new business, we are focusing on launching at the lowest cost and keeping the structure simple. Created wireframes and prototypes.

Features and strengths of this service

By requiring applications to include questions and self-portrait videos that reveal the applicant's soft skills and skills, which are difficult to measure on a resume or cover letter, managers can reduce the amount of time it takes to recruit.

Points

1. In order for users to understand the structure and features of this service, the main page provides explanations with illustrations and concise procedures.

2. Adopts a clean blue color reminiscent of a suit.

3. The structure has been kept simple so that even people visiting the site for the first time can   operate it without any hesitation.
*If the scale of the project grows in the future, I will design a separate management screen.
